Is There Any Scientific Evidence That The Law Of Attraction Exists?

I’ve always been intrigued by the law of attraction but I’m the sort of person who likes to understand how things work. I like to know the how as well as the what and the why. I like to know the facts.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very open minded, I love to explore spirituality and study metaphysical concepts and I have many wild and unproven thoughts and ideas about the world around us. But I also LOVE to study the science behind these things. Tangible concepts are a lot easier to understand (and prove). There are of course many things that can’t be explained and have not been solidly proven, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

What Is The Law Of Attraction

The law of attraction states that you can manifest the things you want via your thoughts. Like attracts like. Thoughts become things. Whatever you project to the world is what you will receive.

The LOA proposes that the universe responds to the vibrations of your thoughts. Positive thoughts will bring positivity into your life. If you think that you aren’t capable of making money, you won’t make money. If you think that you don’t deserve success, you won’t be successful. On the flip side… if you imagine yourself receiving all the things you want, the universe will bring those things into your life. All you need to do is ask the universe for the things you desire and you shall receive…

You Are What You Think

If it was that easy though, wouldn’t we all have everything we want? Our bank accounts would be overflowing and we would breeze through life with ease and abundance.

It’s not quite as simple as asking and receiving. You need to consciously change the way you think in order to bring significant change into your life. You need to believe that it is a done deal, that it is happening, that you are absolutely, categorically going to get the things you want.

Focus on the things you want, not the things you don’t want. Be deliberate and intentional with your thoughts and focus on how you will feel once you receive the things you are asking for. Miracles do happen and there are many people who claim to have manifested great things into their life. Jim Carey manifested $10 million by writing himself a ‘magic check’ and Oprah Winfrey credits her success to visualising what she wanted to achieve.

“You don’t become what you want, you become what you believe.”

Oprah Winfrey

I do believe that the way we think determines the decisions and choices we make. I also believe that positive thinking and visualisation is incredibly important when working towards your goals.

Take Action

It is feasible that our thoughts are energy (vibrating on a particular frequency), but there is also an additional, essential element to manifesting.

Yes, ask for what you want.

Yes, believe you deserve it.

Yes, know that it is a done deal and it will happen.

But don’t forget to TAKE ACTION.

Set an intention and work hard to make it happen. Money does not fall from the sky. The universe may assist in providing for you (whether you believe that is up to you) but you must play your part in bringing abundance into your life.

Work hard. Be resilient. If you fail, get back up again and keep going. Believe in yourself, trust your intuition, trust the process, focus on the goal and keep moving forward.

Energy, Frequency and Vibration

“If you wish to understand the universe, think of energy, frequency and vibration”

Nikola Tesla

Everything is vibrating and everything is moving (even objects that appear still). Everything around us vibrates on its own particular frequency. The chair you are sitting on, the objects you are looking at, the trees in the field, the walls surrounding you and you yourself are all vibrating. The universal laws also state that everything is energy. When we look at anything on an atomic level, it is not actually matter that we find, it is energy.

The way we experience the world is based on our perception of the world around us. Just because we can’t see things moving or vibrating, doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening.

If we look at what an atom is actually comprised of, you might be surprised to know that the majority of an atom is in fact a vibrating vacuum, atoms are mostly empty space. Pretty cool when you think that literally everything around is made up of atoms.

So if everything is energy, vibrating on a particular frequency. Does that mean our thoughts are too?

Like Attracts Like

Like attracts like. You will attract whatever you are a vibrational match for.

When you emit positive thoughts, you will attract positive things into your life. When you are thinking negatively and are constantly focusing on all the things you dislike and don’t want, this is likely all you will bring into your life.

Even if you don’t believe in the LOA, just thinking positively and focussing on your goals helps to keep you motivated and spurs you on to take the necessary action. There is a lot to be said for consciously and intentionally becoming more aware of your thoughts and actions.

Visualising the things we want can help us to achieve the desired outcome. This could simply be because visualising it in detail makes us want it more which increases our drive and determination to make it happen. Or there could be a lot more to it…

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between a thought and a memory. Your mind can conceive anything you think about. The mind sees no difference between doing something and thinking about doing something.

If you keep telling yourself you are going to achieve something, you are more likely to achieve it. If you focus on the things you want, visualise it in detail and believe that it will happen, it is more likely to happen.

Creating a vision board is a useful way to visualise. A vision board is simply a collection of images that represent a particular goal. Creating a vision board keeps you focused on the things you want, rather than the things you do not have.

Scientific Evidence

We can look to quantum science and neuroscience to understand if there is any scientific evidence to support the existence of the law of attraction. The double slit experiment is a fascinating experiment that suggests particles behave differently when observed. This supports the idea that focused intention affects our reality and hypothesises that we can control ‘matter’ with our minds and our thoughts.

Another interesting concept that supports the law of attraction is the existence of mirror neurons. Mirror neurons mirror the behaviours that we observe. In other words, if you are around happy, relaxed people, you will become more happy and relaxed yourself. Similarly, if you are anxious and on edge, those around you will evoke those feelings too.

This can help to explain why we block ourselves from achieving when we are in a negative state and when we are high frequency our energy can be ‘contagious’ and increase the vibe of those around us. This also supports the idea that we can manifest our own success by surrounding ourselves with positive people and those we admire and look up to.

How Do I Use The Law Of Attraction?

  • Know what you want
  • Be specific about what you want to achieve
  • Focus on the things you want, not the things you don’t want
  • Visualise the things you desire
  • Ask the universe
  • Know that you are going to receive it
  • Feel as if you have already received it
  • Believe in yourself
  • Avoid negative thoughts
  • Take action to make it happen
  • Keep yourself accountable
  • Be grateful for all the things you have

Will It Work For Me?

The law of attraction is known as a universal law, much like gravity. We can’t see it, we can’t touch it, but it is there, around us and within us. The LOA states that as long as you know what you want and you believe that you will receive it, the universe will provide.

You are in control of your reality. You can have all the things you want in life.

There is no doubt that a lot of negative thinking is unlikely to bring much positivity into your life. Likewise, the things you desire are more likely to become a reality by thinking positively and knowing without a doubt that you can achieve them.

I believe it is important to know that you deserve success, you deserve abundance, you deserve to be happy, you deserve to feel aligned and fulfilled. You are capable, you have a purpose and you can achieve anything you want to achieve.

Whilst belief is important, you also have to work hard, take action, set an intention and focus on your goals. Keep yourself accountable, take one small step at a time, make intentional moves and keep going.

Is The Law Of Attraction Real?

I can neither definitively prove nor disprove the law of attraction but I do know that believing, visualising and knowing you deserve everything you desire will certainly help you reach your goals.

Your thoughts play such a big part in determining the direction of your life both on a conscious and subconscious level… use them wisely.
